Patrick Peterson is calling his shot in his first game as a Steeler. The defensive back and newest addition to the Pittsburgh secondary believes he’ll record an interception in Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Peterson said on the All Things Covered that he believes he can get an interception against Brock Purdy this weekend. While he gave head coach Kyle Shanahan plenty of credit for running a solid offensive system, he says he can still pick up on some tendencies.

“There is some tell signs out there that tells us what plays we’re gonna get from those guys in certain situations,” Peterson said. “When I get my pick Sunday we’ll talk about it.”

That’s a bold statement for Peterson, but he does know a thing or two about getting interceptions. Over the course of his 12-year NFL career, he’s collected 34 picks, returning two for touchdowns.

The good news for San Francisco? Brock Purdy tossed just four interceptions in nine regular season contests last year. He didn’t throw a single pick in the postseason, either. And, Peterson admitted, the second-year quarterback won’t make mental mistakes.

Peterson didn’t discuss some of those “tell” signs in detail, but plans to provide more information after he records an interception on Sunday. He’ll have to see if he delivers on his guarantee.

Pittsburgh and San Francisco square off at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.

Patrick Peterson signed 2-year deal with Steelers

During the offseason, Peterson inked a two-year deal to join the Pittsburgh defense. He comes to the Steelers after spending the previous two years with the Minnesota Vikings.

Prior to his time in Minnesota, the cornerback spent 10 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals.

Pittsburgh hopes Peterson can help bolster an already-strong defense in 2023. He’s an eight-time Pro Bowl selection and has earned three first-team All-Pro selections in his career.

In 12 NFL seasons, Peterson has tallied 610 tackles and 111 passes defended. In addition to his 34 interceptions, he’s also accounted for 1,891 return yards and scored six total touchdowns.

The Steelers are fresh off a 9-8 campaign in 2023, missing out on the playoffs a year ago. The hope for Pittsburgh is that additions like Peterson can help boost the franchise back into the postseason and become a legitimate Super Bowl threat in the near future.

If he’s intercepting passes in his first game as a Steeler, it might be a good outlook for Pittsburgh.
