Patrick Reed hits incredible shot, holes out for eagle to climb Masters leaderboard

Patrick Reed isn’t going away quietly in the 2025 Masters at Augusta National Golf Club. The 2018 Masters champion holed out for eagle in spectacular fashion on No. 17, putting him T3 on the leaderboard alongside Ludvig Åberg.
A shot so good, Reed couldn’t believe it at first. But indeed, it happened and will go down as one of the shots of the tournament.
Reed, unfortunately, would have needed another hole out for eagle on 18 to have a shot at claiming his second Green Jacket. He came up short but by coming in third, Reed will secure a nice $1.428 million payday. It’s his best showing in a major since his victory at Augusta National seven years ago.
Patrick Reed impressive at 2025 Masters
Even as a former Masters champion, Reed flew under the radar throughout the tournament. Maybe it’s the lack of a passionate fanbase behind him. Perhaps it’s his association with LIV Golf. Whatever the case, Reed performed and will hope to keep that form throughout the season.

But with Reed out of contention for first, The Masters will come down to Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose. The latter tallied a birdie on 18 to get to -11. McIlroy went into 18 at -12, needing just a par to win his first Green Jacket.
McIlroy missed the par putt, sending the tournament to a playoff. Either McIlroy will win his first major since 2014, or Rose will claim his first since 2013.
