Patriots sign sixth-round draft pick Joe Milton, rookie contract details revealed
The New England Patriots have officially signed sixth-round pick Joe Milton to a rookie contract. Given where Joe Milton was selected in the NFL Draft, his rookie contract is worth four years and $4.204 million. There is also a signing bonus with the deal worth $184,437.
Joe Milton played six seasons of college football at Michigan and Tennessee, starting the 2023 season for the Volunteers. During that 2023 season, he had a completion percentage of 64.7 percent for 2,813 yards and 20 touchdowns.
The New England Patriots took two quarterbacks during the 2024 NFL Draft. The first was Drake Maye, who New England took with the third overall pick. Milton was the second, going 193rd overall. That’s a spot that all Patriots fans know can still produce plenty of talented players.
This move comes as New England is hitting the restart button and rebuilding under a new regime. For the first time since 1999, Bill Belichick isn’t running this team. In his place, former Patriots star and assistant coach under Belichick, Jerod Mayo, has taken over the team. On top of all that, the Patriots also traded former first-round pick Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Coincidentally, Joe Milton was selected with the pick New England got in return from Mac Jones.
The Patriots now have a crowded quarterback room. There’s the two rookies, Drake Maye and Joe Milton. Then, there are two more experienced quarterbacks, Jacoby Brissett and Bailey Zappe. How that group works out, in turn, looks like it will be one of the most interesting storylines to follow going into the 2024 season for New England.

Josh Heupel shared what NFL teams would get in Joe Milton
Prior to the 2024 NFL Draft, Joe Milton’s college coach Josh Heupel shared what he thinks NFL teams are going to get in Milton.
“I think it’s a great story of a young guy that recognized areas that he could grow in, trusted the staff and what we were doing schematically to help him grow. Continues to be a great teammate,” Heupel said.
“You look at his relationship with Hendon [Hooker], who he was in an initial quarterback battle — Hendon here today cheering him on. It just speaks to the maturity and the care factor and the trust that we’ve built inside of this, his growth as a person and as a player, can’t wait to see him throw it around here in a minute.”
