Paul Finebaum: The compelling case for Deion Sanders to be Dallas Cowboys' next head coach

Paul Finebaum made the case for Deion Sanders to become the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys during Wednesday’s edition of Get Up on ESPN.

The SEC Network analyst has immense respect for the job Sanders has done in the college ranks, both at Jackson State and Colorado, as he has the Buffaloes in the College Football Playoff hunt at the moment. Evidently, Finebaum believes Sanders is the perfect man for the job in Dallas, should they let-go of Mike McCarthy, which everyone agreed is a forgone conclusion.

“Absolutely,” Finebaum said, regarding whether it makes sense for Sanders to leave the college ranks and become the next head coach for the Cowboys. “It makes more sense for the Cowboys, really than it did even at Colorado. In some ways, it’s an easier job. I know that sounds ridiculous, but what he’s had to overcome at Colorado, to get them in a situation where we’re talking about them as conference champion, or maybe even a CFP entrant, is really spectacular, and one of the craziest stories that I’ve ever seen.

“The reason why I think he works with Dallas, and it was just mentioned a minute ago, not only does he help the locker room, he might be the only person in America that Jerry Jones will listen to, and that’s the most important thing. Yes, he relies on his son, but he would also look at Deion as his other son. I think that could be the ticket. We all know the glitz and the glamour of the most valuable franchise in sports. You put Deion in there, not only as the centerpiece of that — put some great coaches around him, which obviously has to happen, and let Jerry pay attention to someone other than himself.”

During his collegiate coaching career, Sanders went 27-6 at Jackson State, before going 4-8 during his first season at Colorado. However, Year 2 with the Buffaloes has been majorly impressive, as he currently has his team sitting at 7-2, including going 5-1 inside the Big 12 Conference.

Alas, Deion Sanders would be the flashy move Jerry Jones loves to make, but it might just be crazy enough to work, after seeing the immense success the coach has had in college football. Time will tell if he’s chosen to takeover the Cowboys, but doubt his abilities at your own risk. Paul Finebaum certainly isn’t.
