Brittany Mahomes, who recently went swimming with at least one dolphin, now is in the cross hairs PETA, the animal-rights group.

And as you read this, the wife of Patrick Mahomes may still be deleting photos to make sure there’s no digital footprint of the innocent-appearing vacation photos. However, so many folks shared the Brittany Mahomes snaps that they live on, cause if it’s on the internet, it never dies.

Dov Kleiman posted one of the said photos.

Brittany Mahomes first started receiving blowback from her fans, who littered her Instagram account with negative comments. She’d posted photos from a playdate she had with a sweet marine mammal. The Mahomes family was staying on the Big Island of Hawaii for Patrick’s Mahomes “15 and Mahomies Aloha Golf Classic.”

She shared at least three photos, using the caption “Ever snuggled a 400lbs dolphin?” One showed her semi-cradling the dolphin in one, then he flipped her to show his tummy. In another, she’s holding daughter Sterling, with the dolphin, who appears to be smiling, in the background. In a third, she’s kissing her new friend on his snout. TMZ.com publicized some of the photos. You can check them here.

Or, you can check out the mother-daughter below. People Magazine tweeted it to all the magazine’s followers before Brittany Mahomes deleted everything.

Then PETA joined in the discussion for what the group probably thought was a teachable moment. The animal rights group left a reply to one of her photos on Instagram.

“We know you love companion animals,” PETA wrote. “But we hope to see you extend your compassion to marine life too. … These types of interactions are dangerous for them AND us.”

The issue is that these dolphins are held in captivity. The World Animal Protection site points out there are probably more than 3,000 dolphins held around the world to help in the profits for a “multibillion-dollar dolphin tourism industry.” The site adds that “behind every captive dolphin’s smile is trauma. The science is unequivocal — dolphins are sentient creatures. They’re capable of feeling emotions like love, joy, and amusement. They’re also capable of feeling pain, fear, and suffering. Captive dolphins are living over 50 years in misery.”

And the site also says that as “responsible tourists” (are you reading, Brittany Mahomes). “we want to see and understand these phenomenal creatures without causing suffering. But can we really get close enough to witness their joy and freedom without harm? Captivity clearly isn’t the answer, but Whale Heritage Sites and Wildlife Heritage Areas might be.”

Once PETA slipped into Brittany’s mentions, Patrick Mahomes’ wife decided to rid her Instagram of the offending photos. If you check now, you can see a personal photo gallery from Patrick’s golf tournament.

The Mahomes’ family doesn’t have much time to burn some vacation days. After all, the Chiefs report for preseason training camp on July 25. All the NFL teams begin by the last week in July.
