Pete Carroll provides injury update on Jamal Adams
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll safety Jamal Adams said he doesn’t have any concerns right now about safety Jamal Adams‘ health for the season coming off his quadriceps injury suffered last season. However, Carroll was also honest in adding that he might not be ready to play when Week 1 comes around.
“No, not yet. We’ll see. Let’s get to camp and see what happens,” Carroll said Thursday on the third day of the team’s mandatory three-day minicamp. “It may be too much to ask. I don’t know. We’ll see.”
Adams is rehabbing the injury in Texas but was in Washington for the team’s minicamp.
He tore his quad in the season opener last season on a Monday night versus the Denver Broncos. The injury came after a 2021 season where Adams played only 12 games but was highly productive during those contests. He had 87 tackles on the season with five passes defended and two interceptions before tearing his labrum and missing the rest of the season.
The Seahawks are looking forward to having Adams back in the lineup again.
“He’s going to do everything he can to get it right,” Carroll said. “As soon as he can be right, he’ll be right.”
Adams was traded to Seattle ahead of the 2020 season from the New York Jets for safety Bradley McDougald, a 2021 first-round pick, a 2021 third-round pick and a 2022 first-round pick. He was named to the NFL All-Pro second team that first season with the Seahawks, which was his third All-Pro honor in his career. He had earned first team honors in 2019.

Even without Adams for pretty much the entire season last year, Seattle was arguably the surprise team of the NFL. With Geno Smith under center following the Russell Wilson trade, the Seahawks finished 9-8 in the always-competitive NFC West to earn a Wild Card spot.
They faced the San Francisco 49ers in the first round of the playoffs. While Seattle lead the game at the half, San Francisco went on to win the game by 18 points. It was the 10th playoff appearance in Carroll’s 13 seasons as head coach of the Seahawks.
Smith earned NFL Comeback Player of the Year for his performance during the campaign. He led the NFL in completion percentage at 69.8% while throwing for 4,282 yards and 30 touchdowns with just 11 interceptions. He also added 366 yards on the ground.
