PGA tour golfer Mark Hubbard is not known at all for making headlines. He found a way on Friday in the John Deere Classic. Hubbard was in the top 10, ranked in ninth place, when he hit a beautiful chip from the bunker in the pouring rain.

The ball landed just over the fringe and then broke perfectly towards the cup, dropping in. Once he made the chip, Hubbard decided to flip off his caddie, laughing as he did it.

Check it out below.

It was a pretty hilarious moment. His caddie reportedly told him to “get it close,” before he hit the shot. Which is why Hubbard decided to flip him off after he drained it.

Hubbard finished his second round at 9-under par, ranking him ninth in the field for the John Deere Classic. He’s just four shots behind the tournament leader, Cameron Young. It’s good to see Young playing well again. He’s back to the form that we saw out of him when he brought home Rookie of the Year honors last year.

The John Deere Classic has always been the last PGA Tour event before the British Open. This year’s version will be played at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Merseyside, England. That one will start on July 20th and end on July 23rd.

It should be exciting to see how all the players play in the final major of the 2023 season. Especially with the emergence of Rickie Fowler lately, this year’s British Open should be fascinating to watch, even if the timing is odd due to the time zone difference in England.

Rickie Fowler’s emergence has been a hot story on the PGA Tour

Fowler has miraculously ascended to the top 25 of the World Golf Rankings after his recent win at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit. The breakthrough win ended a four-year drought for the former Oklahoma State star. This comes after he fell all the way to 185th in the world at one point. During one stretch, he went 29 consecutive starts without recording a top 10 finish.

It’s been an impressive revival for Fowler and his odds heading into the British Open are quite surprising, considering the dominant success he’s had in the past on the PGA Tour. The most recent odds released by CBS currently list Fowler with 45-to-1 odds to win the British Open. He made an impressive run at the 2023 U.S. Open at LACC, finishing in a tie for 5th place at 5-under par.

While he faltered on Sunday, Fowler was leading for much of the tournament. He’s never won a major in his career. But, his recent form has shown us that his long-awaited major victory might not be that far away. Especially considering the excellent history he’s shown in previous British Opens. He’s finished with three top 10s in the British Open during his career, including two finishes inside the top 5 (one of those was a second-place finish).
