The 2024 FedEx Cup Playoffs are underway for the PGA Tour and golfers are in pursuit of one of the biggest prizes in all of golf–$25 million to the winner. The Top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings this year are competing in the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind (Memphis, Tennessee), which is the first leg of a three-leg event.

Unfortunately, there’s some bad weather expected in Memphis, where Saturday morning storms are forecasted. According to PGA Tour Communications, Round 3 starting times will begin at 9:45 AM to 11:45 AM, off of No. 1 and No. 10 tees in groups of three.

After Round 2 on Friday, Scottie Scheffler currently sits two back at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, putting him at 9-under par. He’s two back off the leaders, Hideki Matsuyama and Denny McCarthy. Both of them are tied at 11-under. Sam Burns is in third place at 10-under. Rookie Nick Dunlap sits at 8-under. He’s only three shots off the lead and keep in mind, it’s his first FedEx Cup. The former Alabama star is tied for fifth place in the tournament.

One name who surged up the leaderboard on Friday in Memphis is former Oklahoma State star Viktor Hovland. He fired a 63 to put himself at 7-under for the tournament so far. Hovland currently sits in a tie for seventh place with Robert MacIntyre (Scotland) and Billy Horschel. Hovland is the defending champion of the 2023 FedEx Cup. Horschel was leading the British Open after 54 holes, but still managed to finish with his best ever finish in a major (T2) as he played some marvelous golf. It’s important to note that Horschel won the 2014 FedEx Cup, the biggest win of his career thus far.

Justin Rose has been playing great golf as of late, too. The Englishman sits at 8-under, putting him in a tie for fifth place. He tied for second in the British Open with Billy Horschel.

Xander Schauffele currently sits at 5-under in a tie for 13th place. Right, now, he’s looking like the only player with a legitimate shot to chase down Scottie Scheffler in the FedEx Cup Standings. Scheffler has a lead of 1,936 points over Schauffele and a lead of 3,448 points over Rory McIlroy, who’s in third place.

Not only does the winner of the FedEx Cup get $25 million, but they’ll also get a five-year exemption into PGA Tour events–meaning they won’t have to qualify for events. The top 50 golfers after this weekend’s tournament will advance to the BMW Championship (Aug 22-25). From there, the top 30 will move onto the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club (Atlanta, Georgia).
