Phidarian Mathis trolled Commanders teammate Jayden Daniels hard after Alabama beat LSU
Washington Commanders defensive lineman Phidarian Mathis trolled quarterback Jayden Daniels by decorating his locker room in Alabama gear. This comes after the Crimson Tide defeated LSU on Saturday night.
It was not a great weekend for Daniels who is a former LSU star. After watching the Tigers fall to Alabama 42-13, Daniels and the Commanders lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 28-27. In the game, Daniels completed just 17 of his 34 pass attempts for 202 yards with zero touchdowns.
“It stings,” Daniels said at his press conference, “and you see that the guys are very passionate about wins and losses, and it means something to them.”
Despite the tough loss to the Steelers, Daniels is the favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year. In 10 games this season, Daniels has completed 68.7 percent of his passes for 2,147 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions with a 101.7 passer rating. He has also been strong in the running game as he has rushed for 464 yards and four touchdowns.

More on Phidarian Mathis and Jayden Daniels
Daniels played for LSU in 2022 and 2023 after starting his college football career at Arizona State. He had a memorable 2023 season, winning multiple end-of-year awards including the Heisman Trophy. Last year, Daniels threw for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns while rushing for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Tigers. The Commanders selected Daniels No. 2 overall in this year’s draft.
Phidarian Mathis was selected by Washington in the second round of the 2022 draft. He played college football at Alabama and helped the team win a national title in 2020. The following season, Mathis was selected to the All-SEC Second Team after recording 53 tackles and nine sacks.
“I want to come back a different person,” Mathis said at the end of the 2023 season when talking about his expectations for 2024. “Have a different mindset, different mentality … I know I’m gonna come back a different guy, and I’m gonna put more on tape. I’m going to push. I’m going to work so hard until I can’t no more. I know this is an important year for me just to show everybody who I really am.”
