The Washington Commanders may finally have new ownership. Sportico is reporting that the team and current owner Dan Snyder have reached an agreement to sell for $6 million to the Josh Harris group.

The report states the two sides are hoping to execute the deal “in the coming days.” Harris is currently a co-owner of the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Josh Harris/Mitchell Rales group, which now includes Magic Johnson, and others, submitted bids well over the last record-setting NFL team sale. The Denver Broncos went for $4.65 billion to the Robert Walton-led group last year.

According to reporter Scott Abraham, Josh Harris currently owns a small stake of the Pittsburgh Steelers, which he would have to sell if he buys Commanders.

RGIII moves closer to Commanders ownership

According to former NFL star-turned-analyst, Robert Griffin III, he is very excited to be part of the ownership group. Griffin spoke recently on The Rich Eisen Show about his possible interest in owning the Commanders — a team he played for on the field.

“I’ve been having some really great conversations with this [potential ownership] group, led by Josh Harris,” Griffin said. “And having an opportunity to come in on that ownership group, I’m like head-over-heels excited about that process. To be a player for that team, to not have my career go the way I wanted it to, or the fans wanted it to in that city, would be a full-circle type of moment, to come back and try to help that team and that organization build the winner that the fans deserve.

“That’s something I’m really excited about. It’s not something I can announce at this point. The conversations are happening and I’m really excited about the potential there. At the end of the day, they will throw a parade when Dan Snyder sells the team.”

According to a Wednesday report, interest in the Washington Commanders franchise has cooled for billionaire Jeff Bezos. The report from Front Office Sports revealed that a source with knowledge of the situation said the Amazon founder will not make a bid for the NFL team.

Canadian billionaire Steve Apostolopoulous, who submitted the team’s second official offer, is reportedly still in a “head-to-head” race, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

ESPN recently shared that Apostolopoulos, founder of Six Ventures Inc. private equity, recently had discussions to buy the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets from Michael Jordan. However, he chose to focus on the Commanders bid.
