Kelly Oubre Jr., a guard with the 76ers, was hospitalized in Philadelphia Saturday night after being hit by a car.

UPDATE: Oubre now is out of the hospital. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski shared that Oubre “will work closely with the 76ers medical staff on treatment and care for the injuries. He is expected to miss a significant period of time.”

EARLIER: ESPN first reported the news. A car struck Oubre as he walked near his home. A team representative confirmed the news with ESPN and said that Oubre is in stable condition.

Representatives from the 76ers, including president Daryl Morey, were at the hospital. The 76ers then shared a statement on X (formerly Twitter) to update fans with more information about Kelly Oubre. The team ended the statement with “please join us in sending our best to Kelly and his family as he recovers from this incident.”

Police say Kelly Oubre initially walked away from accident

The ABC affiliate in Philadephia reported that Oubre initially walked away from the accident, which happened at about 7 p.m. local time. Medics found him nearby. Police told the affiliate that a driver in a silver vehicle fled the scene.

Kelly Oubre, 27, is in his first season with the 76ers. He got to the NBA in 2015 after playing a season for the Kansas Jayhawks. The Atlanta Hawks selected him with the 15th pick of the draft in 2015, then traded him to the Wizards.

He’s also played for the Suns, Warriors and Hornets. The 76ers signed him from the Hornets to a one-year deal for this season. He’d adapted well as he replaced P.J. Tucker in the starting lineup earlier this month. Playing in eight games, he’s averaging 16.3 points on 50 percent shooting, including 38 percent from three-point range.

The 76ers were off Saturday. They return to action Sunday against Indiana.
