Eagles defensive tackle Jordan Davis exits game to locker room in concussion protocols

The Philadelphia Eagles potentially lost one of the biggest defensive stars against Dallas after Jordan Davis entered concussion protocols. The Eagles defensive tackle went to the locker room in the second quarter after being examined in the injury tent, accompanied by concussion experts for further evaluation.
Jordan Davis examined for possible concussion
The injury occurred when Davis collided helmets with teammate Josh Sweat on a tackle, with both players looking stunned from the collision initially. Davis took a moment to fully go down to the field, and was attended to by the medical staff before going into the injury tent. Shortly afterwards, he went to the locker rooms for full evaluation — apparently indicating he failed the quick examination on the sideline.
The NFL’s concussion protocols during a game call for an examination in the team’s injury tent to help determine readiness to return to the field. If the sideline examination produces any results that are “positive, inconclusive or suspicious” of a concussion, the player is escorted into the locker room for a full examination.

Davis, a former Georgia standout and national champion, has become a big part of the 13-1 Eagles success this season as a rookie. Davis had appeared in ten games for Philadelphia and started five prior to Saturday’s game, and played double digit snaps on defense in every game but one. The rookie defensive tackle has contributed 14 tackles, eight solo tackles and one for a loss through the season so far.
The Eagles are certainly hopeful that his newest injury won’t force him to miss any significant time, especially after an earlier injury this season forced Davis to miss several weeks. While playing the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier in the season, Davis suffered a high ankle sprain that forced him out for a good chunk of his rookie year before coming back in time to ramp up to the playoffs.
