WATCH: Jalen Hurts casually celebrates NFC title win with victory cigar
Former Alabama and Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts had an incredible season for the Philadelphia Eagles, showing tremendous improvement and leading his team to a trip to Super Bowl LVII following their 31-7 win over the San Fransisco 49ers.
The Eagles surely did plenty of celebrating following their NFC Championship, but Hurts took a moment to himself following the game as well. Hurts was caught on camera after the win in the locker room puffing on a cigar and scrolling through his phone, which was likely swamped with messages and notifications following their huge victory.
Hurts’ solo celebration in his locker was surely deserved, as he quieted a lot of doubters this season. He had an underwhelming performance versus the 49ers in a game that predominantly featured Philadelphia’s run game, throwing for just 121 yards and rushing for 39 yards and a touchdown scamper.
But he was a major key to the Eagles’ success this season leading them to a 16-3 record all the way to the Super Bowl, throwing for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns during the regular season, and earning a spot as a finalist for the NFL MVP Award.
Jalen Hurts on leading team to Super Bowl despite doubters: ‘I’m not gonna make this about me. This is a special city’
After coming into the postseason as the No. 1 seed in the NFC, the Philadelphia Eagles have officially capitalized on their 16-3 season by punching their ticket to Super Bowl LVII on Sunday. A big part of the franchise’s run this year has been the star development of QB Jalen Hurts in his second season as their QB1.

However, when speaking with Terry Bradshaw during the trophy presentation after their 31-7 victory over San Francisco in Lincoln Financial Field, Hurts was nothing but humble about the accomplishment by himself, his teammates, and the city of Philadelphia. He said the Eagles overcame a lot but, in the end, they now have one opportunity left to accomplish their goals and become world champions.
“It’s been a lot. I’m not gonna make this about me. This city? This is a special city. They deserve everything that’s going on,” said Hurts. “This is a special city. (But) we got one more. We got one more.”
Hurts finished 15/25 through the air for 121 yards. While he didn’t throw for a score, he did rush in a touchdown while also accumulating 39 yards with his legs. Pair that with another top-notch performance from the Eagle’s defense and it was all more than enough to get Philly over the line against a 49er team that was dealing with more than its fair share of adversity.
Hurts, the Eagles, and the city of Philadelphia will have plenty to cheer about tonight and in the coming days. Still, he is right in that they have one last hurdle to overcome as they await to see who their opponent out of the AFC will be come the Super Bowl in Glendale.
