Report: Philadelphia Eagles releasing CB Darius Slay

The Philadelphia Eagles are releasing veteran CB and six-time Pro Bowler Darius Slay, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“If he is designated a post-June 1 release, the Eagles will save $4.3 million against the cap,” Schefter wrote on Twitter.

The Eagles traded for Slay in March of 2020 for a third and fifth round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, sending the picks to the Detroit Lions. He signed a new three-year deal upon arriving in Philadelphia.

Slay was a Pro Bowler with the Eagles in 2021, ’22 and ’23 to highlight a successful tenure with the franchise. Slay helped the Eagles get to Super Bowl LVII in 2022 and aided a win in Super Bowl LIX this past season.

Over the course of his career, Slay has 619 tackles, one sack, 28 interceptions, 160 pass deflections, five defensive touchdowns, two forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. Slay led the NFL in interceptions in 2017 while with Detroit with eight picks.

Slay expressed desire to return to the Eagles, or even the Lions, should he be a free agent going into the 2025 season. He also alluded to the ’25 season possibly being his final year in the NFL. The veteran did not log a regular season interception in 2024, but had one in the Eagles’ Wild Card win over the Green Bay Packers.

“I got one year left in that tank,” Slay said, via NFL.com. “I ain’t trying to play too much more. Unless a miracle happens and I’m just feeling like I’m 21 again, I just want to do 13 years and call it a day … “Yeah, next year most likely will be my last. I would love for it to be a Philadelphia Eagle, you know what I’m saying? But if it ain’t, it’s cool. But if it is, I’m super blessed.”

Slay was a second round pick (No. 36 overall) by the Lions in the 2013 NFL Draft out of Mississippi State.
