The Philadelphia Eagles are signing former Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book to their practice squad, according to NFL insider Mike Garafolo.

The news comes as Eagles starting quarterback Jalen Hurts is dealing with a concussion. Hurts missed Wednesday’s practice ahead of Sunday’s game against the Cowboys. Eagles backup QB Kenny Pickett, who is in line to start if Hurts can’t go, was listed as a limited participant at practice on Wednesday as he is dealing with a rib injury.

“The #Eagles are signing QB Ian Book to the practice squad following his visit yesterday, sources say,” Garafolo posted on Twitter. “Jalen Hurts (concussion) was listed as DNP on yesterday’s projected practice report while Kenny Pickett (ribs) was limited. Tanner McKee and Book now also available.”

Ian Book was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He has also spent time with the Eagles, Patriots and Chiefs.

A former third-team All-ACC selection, Ian Book led Notre Dame to the College Football Playoff during his time with the Irish.

Even though Ian Book is just signing with the Eagles practice squad, this is a good opportunity for him.

Nick Sirianni, Zach Ertz separated by Big Dom during altercation after Eagles-Commanders game

Elsewhere with the Eagles, it was an emotional game on Sunday between Philadelphia and the Washington Commanders. Now, details of just how emotional things got between the two sides are starting to come out with it being reported that Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni and Commanders tight end Zach Ertz needed to be separated following the game due to an altercation.

Ertz, a former Eagles tight end, was coached for one season by Sirianni. That was back in 2021 and it saw him get traded mid-season to the Arizona Cardinals.

According to the report, Ertz took issue with something that Sirianni said about his play during the game on Sunday during the handshake line. That, in turn, led to the altercation that Big Dom DiSandro, the Eagles chief security officer, needed to step in and break up.

Big Dom gained notoriety of a sort last season when he became involved in his own altercation on the sidelines. That one came in a game against the 49ers and linebacker Dre Greenlaw. At the time, he was ejected and later banned from the sidelines for the remainder of the season by the NFL for his role in that scuffle.

Nick Sirianni would later apologize to Zach Ertz via a Zoom call. However, neither has publicly shared what was said between the two that led to the altercation. It’s unclear if their prior history played a role in the altercation.
