Quarterback Jalen Hurts has been named Super Bowl LIX MVP after the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Sunday’s game at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
Hurts was honored with The Pete Rozelle Trophy after a remarkable performance.
Jalen Hurts finished 17-of-22 passing for 221 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception. Perhaps more importantly, he ran for 72 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, frequently moving the chains by slipping free from the pocket and picking up key first downs.
The former Alabama and Oklahoma quarterback has been doubted throughout his career, but he has answered those question marks with a firm statement by winning the Super Bowl.
No less, he’s now a Super Bowl MVP.
Many of the game’s greats have won Super Bowl MVP, first handed out to Bart Starr in 1967. Other winners include Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, John Elway, Peyton Manning and of course, Tom Brady, who earned Super Bowl MVP honors a record five times.

The Eagles were dominant in their victory, holding the Chiefs to just six first downs at one point into the fourth quarter. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was hoping to add a fourth Lombardi Trophy to his resume, had one of the worst games of his NFL career. His job was made difficult by Philadelphia’s No. 1 ranked defense, which pressured Mahomes early and often.
As for head coach Nick Sirianni, he’s a long way removed from calls for his firing as recent as last season. Since taking over for Doug Pederson after the 2020 season, all Sirianni and the Eagles have done is win. Sirianni is 48-20 in the regular season, the fifth-highest winning percentage among head coaches in NFL history. But coaches are ultimately judged by their postseason success, and Sirianni will now have a ring to show off in addition to a Super Bowl appearance in 2022.
