Eagles WR Devon Allen posts top-five 110m hurdles time of 2023
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Devon Allen delivered at the USATF New York City Grand Prix over the weekend, recording a 13.04 in the 110-meter hurdles and finishing second overall. His time marked the fourth-fastest recorded in the 110 m. race so far this year.
Continuing to prepare for the 2023 football season and racing, Allen told reporters that he has “a little bit of a decision” to make. If he places in the top three at the U.S. Championships early next month, the start to his season with the Eagles could be in jeopardy.
With a top-three finish at the U.S. championships, he would qualify for the World Championships in mid-to-late August, which is when the Eagles will play their preseason games.
Allen was pleased with his performance over the weekend, but admitted the balancing act with football and track has been a challenge.
“It’s going well. Balancing both is difficult, but I’m having a lot of fun, as long as I can stay healthy,” Allen said, via NBCSportsPhiladelphia. “Get to compete against these guys in high-quality competition. 13.01 and 13.04 is nothing to scoff at.”
Allen posted a personal best of 12.84 seconds in the 110 m. hurdles last year, which was the third-fastest of all-time. He posted that time at the same USATF New York City Grand Prix event.

The former Oregon Duck spent the 2022 season on the Eagles’ practice squad and re-signed with the team after the Super Bowl. It was his first time back on the field since 2016. He didn’t record any stats but that could change in 2023.

“It was a great experience,” Allen said, via the Eagles’ team site. I had a lot of fun, I learned a lot, and I developed a lot as a player. It definitely was difficult because I hadn’t played in five, six years, but I feel I developed well and learned a lot from the guys in our room.
“Everyone on the team was cool and I had a great experience. On top of that, in my first year in the NFL, making it to the Super Bowl was just special.”
In the 2022 preseason, the speedster caught a pass from Reid Sinnett and turned it into a diving 55-yard touchdown catch versus Cleveland.
After injuries seemingly killed his football career, Allen stuck with track until last offseason. He’s a three-time National Champion (2014, 2016, 2018) and two-time Olympian (2016, 2020) in the 110-meter event.
