Pittsburgh Pirates manager Andy Haines ejected after just three pitches vs. Houston Astros
It didn’t take long for Pittsburgh Pirates skipper Andy Haines to be tossed from Wednesday night’s matchup with the Houston Astros. In fact, it took him the same number of pitches for a batter to strike out.
In the opening inning of the game, Haines became irate following two questionable ball calls by the home plate umpire. After the second ball was called on lead-off batter Andrew McCutchen, the Pirates manager took a walk to home plate to argue the calls. After a brief shouting match, mostly by Haines, the Pittsburgh skipper was tossed out of the game.
You can check out the umpires’ calls, along with Haines’s contest and ejection, in the videos below.
Pittsburgh entered Wednesday night’s matchup in a tightly contested push for the playoffs. Currently, the Pirates are 5.5 games behind NL Central leader the Milwaukee Brewers. They also our two games removed from the final spot in the NL wild card.
The questionable calls, in Haines’ eyes, were more than enough to get the Pirates’ skipper fired up and ejected. However, since his ejection, Pittsburgh has responded in a big way, taking the fight to the Astros, scoring four runs in the second inning. They now hold a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning at Minute Maid Park.

Dogs wear Paul Skenes-themed fake mustaches at Pittsburgh Pirates’ Pup Night game
When a sporting sensation takes over, the reactions from fans are often the most priceless part. And Paul Skenes is every bit the part of a sensation while having a massive fan following.
On Tuesday at the ballpark, the immensity of Skenes’ popularity was on full display.
How, you might ask? Well, even the local canines were supporting the rookie Pittsburgh Pirates sensation. A pair of dogs, presumably some type of poodle mix, were spotted rocking Skenes mustaches just above their snouts at the park during the fourth inning. Check it out below.

Paul Skenes, of course, is in the middle of a historic rookie season.
Earlier this month he set an MLB record when he recorded his 78th strikeout in his first 10 starts, something no other rookie pitcher had ever accomplished.
He reached the MLB All-Star game and is one of the favorites for the Cy Young Award. He is currently at +400 odds to win the NL Cy Young, behind only Chris Sale and Zack Wheeler.
