Pittsburgh Pirates owner Bob Nutting addresses injured fan who fell over wall vs. Cubs

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs had their game on Wednesday night marred by a scary incident in the seventh inning when a fan fell over the 21-foot-tall Clemente Wall in right field. The fan was visibly injured on the field, leading to a delay in the game while they received medical treatment.
Now, a day after the event, Pirates owner Bob Nutting addressed the scary situation. In it, he offers support and appreciation for those who responded to the incident.
“We are all deeply saddened and truly heartbroken after the terrible accident that occurred last night,” Bob Nutting said in the statement. “It was one of the most difficult moments many of us have ever experienced. We are devastated. Pirates baseball is a community, and our fans are like family. In times like these, we must come together, support one another, and keep him and his loved ones in our prayers. We also want to thank and appreciate the efforts of the first responders who rushed to his attention and provided him with compassionate care.”
Pittsburgh City Police, Pittsburgh EMS, Pirates and Cubs medical staff, and other PNC Park personnel were on hand to offer medical assistance to the fan. From there, he was transported to Allegheny General Hospital.
A report from Pittsburgh Public Safety on the fan has them in “critical condition” following the accident. It’s being treated as an accident, and there are not expected to be any further updates from the police department. Instead, any health updates in the future are likely to come from the fan’s family.

The statement from Nutting was different than the one released by the Pirates organization. The team previously shared what it knew about the scary moment.
“Tonight, during the seventh inning of the game at PNC Park, an adult male fell from the right field bleachers onto the field of play,” the statement read. “Pittsburgh EMS, as well as the Pirates and Cubs athletic training teams and other PNC Park personnel reacted and responded immediately and administered care. He was transported to Allegheny General Hospital. No further information is available at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.”
The Pittsburgh Pirates scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 4-3 lead over the Cubs. That was a lead they’d hold onto on their way to a win. The pair will wrap up their series on Thursday afternoon with first pitch at PNC Park scheduled for 12:35 p.m. EST.
