Pittsburgh radio host received 'hateful' emails over RFK Racing hat in highly unfortunate mix-up

A Pittsburgh radio host claimed he received “hateful” emails over wearing an RFK Racing hat on his show this week.
Colin Dunlap, a host on KDKA Pittsburgh 100.1FM/AM1020, wore the hat in support of he and his son’s favorite race team, RFK. Dunlap attended the Daytona 500 this past Sunday, where he purchased the hat. But for viewers of his show that aren’t up to date with NASCAR, that hat created a firestorm. RFK stands for Roush Fenway Keselowski, but some thought the RFK on Dunlap’s hat was for Robert F. Kennedy JR., the United States secretary of health and human services.
“Now this is hilarious,” Dunlap wrote Wednesday on X. “Got a handful of hateful emails overnight about my hat. One: “you right wing Trumper. Nice f—- RFK, Jr merch you wore on your show…” Um. My hat is from Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing — a NASCAR team. Go @keselowski @Chris_Buescher and @RyanPreece!”
Dunlap faced more backlash in his comment section from those who felt he was intentionally trolling. He fired back at anyone who believed the hat had a political meaning to it.
“No. It’s a race team. A Ford one my son and I root for. If you or anyone else is mad about me wearing this hat or think there’s some other meaning, that’s your problem, bozo,” Dunlap responded to a commenter.

RFK Racing sees mixed results in Daytona 500
Dunlap is simply an RFK fan who made the trip to Daytona Beach this weekend to watch his favorite drivers in Brad Keselowski, Chris Buescher and Ryan Preece. Keselowski finished 26th, while Buescher scored a top 10. As for Preece, he found himself in another violent wreck on the backstretch, flipping his No. 60 Ford. Preece infamously had a wreck at Daytona in 2023 that led to the track replacing the grass on the backstretch with pavement.
Even without grass, Preece found himself flipping at Daytona once again. It was a violent wreck that started with Christopher Bell being turned into the outside wall and back down into Preece. After the wreck, Preece was very serious. He felt that this was another incident that should have never occurred.
“I don’t know if it’s the diffuser or what that makes these cars like a sheet of plywood when you walk outside on a windy day,” Preece said to Regan Smith of FOX Sports. “When the car took off like that and it got real quiet all I thought about was my daughter. So, I’m lucky to walk away.
“But we’re getting really close to somebody not being able to. … It’s frustrating when you end your day like this.”
