ESPN analyst interviewed with Steelers in Indianapolis this week for GM vacancy
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been making a major push to fill their general manager vacancy with several notable interviews over the last few weeks and a noteworthy name just entered the conversation.
According to Adam Schefter, current ESPN analyst Louis Riddick is interviewing for the vacancy in Indianapolis as teams and executives assemble for the NFL Combine.
Kevin Colbert, who became the first-ever Steelers’ GM in 2011 before stepping away ahead of the 2022 campaign with uncertainty looming over the future of the organization at several key positions.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are taking a meticulous approach, but with the NFL Draft inching closer, it’s safe to assume a deal would get done sooner rather than later.
Riddick, a former NFL defensive back has been a hot name in GM searches in the past and his resume speaks for itself. After his playing career ended, he became a pro scout for the Washington Redskins for four years before being promoted to Director of Pro Personnel.
He was hired by the rival Eagles as a pro scout in 2008 and eventually was promoted to Director of Pro Personnel in 2010.
While the former player and executive has had plenty of success since making the move to broadcasting at ESPN, his name has constantly emerged when general manager vacancies pop up.
Some of that comes from fans hearing his unique perspective — a major factor why the network views him as an asset — but smart NFL organizations have consistently kept Riddick on the radar.

In 2020, multiple reports emerged that both the Detroit Lions and Houston Texans had interviewed Riddick for their GM openings.
Louis Riddick has the acumen to fill the role in a time where the Pittsburgh Steelers have massive decisions to make.
Big shoes to fill for new Pittsburgh Steelers GM
Colbert was named the first general manager in team history when he was promoted in 2011. While his title changed, his job didn’t — the Steelers front office member has been in-charge of the Steelers’ drafting strategy since 2000.
Pittsburgh is a model of consistency. From head coach to quarterback to front office, the franchise provides ample time and opportunity to the people they believe in. However, the time is near for two of those people to move on from their post.
Still, the Rooney family is built on character and has proven they aren’t scared to make bold moves other NFL franchises wouldn’t. They need to be convinced their next GM is the perfect choice and aligns with the vision of Mike Tomlin and staples of the organization who have been responsible for sustained success.
