Report: Pittsburgh Steelers have 'interest' in former Giants QB Daniel Jones

The Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly have an interest in former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, according to 93.7 The Fan’s Andrew Fillipponi.
“Source: There’s interest in former Giants QB Daniel Jones inside the Steelers organization,” Fillipponi wrote. “Quote: ‘[The Steelers] could do a lot worse than Jones.’ With the belief he actually is a good fit for Arthur Smith’s offense. And Mike Tomlin’s preference for a mobile quarterback.”
According to the report, Jones’ mobility is an attractive option for the Steelers. Currently, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are slated to hit free agency, causing much speculation about Pittsburgh’s QB room.
Jones was released midseason by the Giants, following a disastrous tenure with the team that included just one playoff berth. With injuries, lack of success and overall bad roster management, Jones was practically set up to fail in New York, according to some.
After he was released, he signed with the Minnesota Vikings on a practice squad deal for the remainder of the season.
In 10 games this past season, Jones amassed 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns, seven interceptions and a 63.3% completion percentage to go along with a 2-8 record as the Giants’ starter.

A former first round pick out of Duke, Jones finished his Giants career with a 24-44-1 record and 70 touchdown passes to go along with 47 interceptions. New York will take on a $22.21 million dead cap hit in 2025.
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell, who evaluated Jones throughout the pre-draft process in 2019 while offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders (7-5), spoke highly of the 27-year-old when asked about the possibility of signing him, prior to officially adding him to the team.
“I will say tons of respect for Daniel Jones as a player and a person. Got to know him through the draft process years ago,” O’Connell said, via Kevin Seifert of ESPN. “I’m sure now that he’s a free agent and there’s probably a ton of league-wide interest in him, Daniel is going to make the decision that is best for him and his career moving forward. And I’m sure he’s working through that process right now.
“… I can just say that I’ve been a big fan of Daniel’s for a long time. And I hope wherever his next step takes him, it’s a good opportunity for him.”
While Jones could be a veteran stop gap or depth piece for the Steelers, the team has also been linked to Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart as a potential first round pick this April.
