The Pittsburgh Steelers released their final injury report (or inactives) for the Sunday Night Football game against the New York Jets, and a few key players will miss the matchup. Linebacker Nick Herbig, center Zach Frazier, running back Cordarrelle Patterson, quarterback Kyle Allen (emergency third QB) wide receiver Roman Wilson, safety Damontae Kazee and running back Aaron Shampklin are the players who are not active for the Week 7 game.

With Herbig out, the Steelers activated linebacker Alex Highsmith for the first time since Week 3. Highsmith has missed the last three games due to a groin injury.

“It feels great. I’m just excited to get back out there this week,” Highsmith said, per the Steelers’ official website. “I’m feeling really good. In practice, I was in good form. I’m just excited and ready to get back out there.

“It’s been too long. First time in my career that I’ve missed a couple of games, so I’m not used to that. To get back out there with the guys, it’s going to be an awesome feeling, especially primetime, Sunday Night, can’t be better.”

“When you have another quality rusher, they have to account for both of them,” Steelers defensive coordinator Teryl Austin said. “Those guys face that all the time. “I don’t think it affects T.J. (Watt) because they’re always going to be doing things to take care of him, and now that gives Alex some opportunities. If it does, it keeps an extra guy in the protection. That helps us in terms of not having so many guys out.

Herbig injured his hamstring in the Week 5 game against the Dallas Cowboys and will miss his second game in a row. In five games, Herbig has recorded eight tackles, three tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Patterson hasn’t played since Week 4 and was ruled out before the Week 7 game due to an ankle injury. Through four games, Patterson has recorded 92 yards on 16 carries and has caught five passes for 34 yards.
