Pittsburgh Steelers injury report: Update emerges on Russell Wilson, RB Jaylen Warren
Pittsburgh Steelers (3-0) quarterback Russell Wilson, who has yet to make his 2024 debut, is questionable for Sunday’s Week 4 road contest against the Indianapolis Colts (1-2).
Justin Fields has started the first three games of the season with Wilson sidelined due to a calf injury he sustained on the eve of training camp. Head coach Mike Tomlin initially named Wilson the starting quarterback ahead of the season opener. He aggravated his calf injury three days prior to Week 1, however, and has been a limited participant in practice over the last two weeks.
“As we walk in the building tomorrow, I want Justin singularly focused on starting for us. And doing what’s required to be ready to do that,” Tomlin said Tuesday. “… We’ll see where the week leads us. If [Wilson’s] availability or the quality of his practice participation picks up, maybe we’ll consider that later in the week. If it doesn’t, then it won’t be a consideration, and we’ll just continue with where we are right now.”
Fields has guided the Steelers to a perfect record under center and has gotten better game-by-game. He has thrown for 518 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, completing a career-high 73.3% of his passes.

Steelers dealing with several notable injuries heading into Week 4
While it remains to be seen if Wilson will be available to play, several Steelers have been ruled out for Sunday’s game. Running back Jaylen Warren, who left last Sunday’s game with a knee injury, is out. Warren previously dealt with a hamstring injury during the preseason. Without Warren, the Steelers will continue to lean on Najee Harris and Cordarrelle Patterson in the ground game.
Outside linebacker Alex Highsmith will also be sidelined against the Colts. Highsmith sustained a groin injury in the 20-10 Week 3 home win over the Los Angeles Chargers (2-1) and is expected to miss multiple weeks. Second-year pass rusher Nick Herbig recorded two sacks filling in for Highsmith and is in line for plenty of work versus Indianapolis.
“I think it’s my coaches and teammates, them believing in me. Putting me in position to make plays, mentoring me, showing me the ropes,” Herbig said this week. “It’s a good feeling because you know your hard work is paying off. You work all year, all offseason, for moments like that, to be able to go out there and perform.”
