At least two reports have come out denying any interest in QB Trevor Lawrence from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

On Thursday, reporting emerged that Pittsburgh had inquired about making a potential deal for Lawrence with Jacksonville. However, Mark Kaboly and ESPN’s Michael DiRocco have both tweeted very much the opposite regarding that news.

“The Steelers in no way imaginable inquired about trading for Trevor Lawrence and have no interest in even reaching out to the Jaguars about acquiring Lawrence, according to a source,” wrote Kaboly online.

“Regarding recent report that Steelers have inquired about a trade for Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence, a Jaguars source said there’s ‘no chance’ they’ll trade Lawrence and called the idea ‘ridiculous’,” DiRocco also tweeted.

Lawrence, the former No. 1 pick in 2021, has spent the past four seasons as the starting quarterback for the Jaguars. He has completed 63.3% of his passes as a pro so far for 13,815 yards, good for 230.2 ypg., with 69 touchdowns and 46 interceptions. He has also rushed for 14 more scores.

As a whole, though, Lawrence has had an up-and-down career thus far. He is a one-time selection as a Pro Bowler in a season where he led Jacksonville to the AFC Divisional. However, his overall record as a starter is 22-38 (.367) and has a total of 68 turnovers in 60 career games. He also spent much of this season injured as he missed seven games in total with two for a shoulder injury and then the final five on injured reserve with a concussion following a notable, serious hit in Week 13.

Still, it wouldn’t fully make sense for the Jaguars to move on from Lawrence yet. They just signed him to a five-year, $275 million extension last offseason to tie him in second for the highest-paid quarterback in the league with Joe Burrow and Jordan Love with them all behind Dak Prescott. They’re also entering a new tenure with their hire of Liam Coen, who will be Lawrence’s third head coach with him set to have a third offensive coordinator now too in Grant Udinski.

That said, Pittsburgh remains mentioned in the quarterback market after the past three seasons. They’ve played several quarterbacks in Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, Russell Wilson, and Justin Fields with moderate success for the team in that span. That’s why, if a quarterback like Lawrence at his age were available, the Steelers might have some interest.

Pittsburgh apparently doesn’t, though, based on this latest reporting from insiders for the Steelers.
