Pittsburgh Steelers re-sign key defensive lineman on two-year deal
The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to keep late-season pickup Montravius Adams for two more years, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The parties agreed on a two-year, $5 million deal for the fifth-year defensive tackle on Tuesday ahead of the free agency window.
Adams, a former third-round pick by the Green Bay Packers out of Auburn, has been in the NFL since 2017. He spent the first four years of his career with the Green Bay Packers, where he had 44 tackles, four tackles for loss, six quarterback hits and 1.5 sacks in 45 games. Adams played five games with the Saints in 2021, totaling seven tackles and one tackle for loss.
After moving to the practice squad, the Saints traded him to Pittsburgh where he tallied eight tackles with one tackle for loss in four games. He also posted a sack in the Steelers’ playoff game versus the Chiefs.
Adams is a former five-star recruit. He played for Auburn from 2013 to 2016, where he had 147 total tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, two interceptions, three passes defended, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one defensive touchdown.
Steelers tender QB Dwayne Haskins
The Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback situation continues to unfold. On Monday, they tendered a contract to one of them — even after agreeing to sign another in free agency.

Pittsburgh tendered Dwayne Haskins a contract worth $2.54 million, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. He’s now the third quarterback on the depth chart behind Mason Rudolph and the newly signed Mitchell Trubisky.
The Washington Commanders drafted Haskins as the No. 15 overall pick out of Ohio State in 2019. He played in 16 games, including 13 starts, in two seasons with Washington and totaled 2,804 yards and 12 touchdowns while completing 60.1% of his passes. Haskins didn’t play at all for the Steelers in 2021.
The decision to tender Haskins a contract came after the Steelers agreed to a deal with Trubisky, the 2017 No. 2 overall pick. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Pittsburgh is planning for Trubisky to become the new starter and replace Ben Roethlisberger, who retired after this past season.
The Steelers have the No. 20 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, and mock drafts listed former Liberty quarterback Malik Willis as a potential target. After signing Trubisky and tendering Haskins, that could be something to watch as the draft approaches.
