Pittsburgh Steelers release 10 additional players

The Pittsburgh Steelers took another big chunk out of their workload early this week ahead of the NFL’s deadline to reduce rosters to 53 men. The Steelers announced the waiving of 10 players, including Tanner Muse, whose release news made headlines early on Monday.

Following a rule change, the NFL has just one cut deadline this season, which is on Aug. 29 at 4 p.m. ET.

Joining Muse on waivers are offensive lineman Le’Raven Clark, offensive lineman William Dunkle, safety Jalen Elliott, running back Darius Hagans, cornerback Lavert Hill, defensive lineman Manny Jones, quarterback Tanner Morgan, linebacker Toby Ndukwe and safety Kenny Robinson.

With the most recent roster reduction the Steelers still have a ways to go from 90 to 53 men. After the final cuts, the team can designate 16 players for the practice squad roster.

On Sunday, the Steelers also released receiver Dan Chisena, defensive back Nevelle Clarke, receiver Aron Cruikshank, linebacker Kuony Deng, cornerback Madre Harper, defensive lineman James Nyamwaya, kicker B.T. Potter, linebacker Forrest Rhyne and long snapper Rex Sunahara.

Steelers waive Tanner Muse

Former collegiate All-American and two-time national champion Tanner Muse is another player no longer with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

A third-round pick out of Clemson, Muse originally signed a four-year rookie deal with the Raiders for $4.32 million. Las Vegas waived him in September of 2021 and the Seahawks picked him up the very next day. He signed to the Seahawks active roster in December.

Ahead of the 2022 season, Muse signed a one-year deal for $660,000. He tallied a career-high 16 tackles while playing in all 17 games that year for Seattle, starting one of them.

Despite coming off a decent season, Muse struggled to find a new home and eventually signed with Pittsburgh for a deal that totaled a hair over a million dollars.

Now, he’ll see very little of that deal as he was waived before the first game even kicked off. With his stats from 2022, though, Muse won’t stick on the free agent market long and will certainly find a new home, whether it’s on a roster or with a practice squad.

The North Carolina native signed with Clemson out of high school. He finished his career with the Tigers with 237 career tackles, 10.5 for loss, 15 passes broken up, four sacks, and seven interceptions for a total of 102 return yards.
