The Pittsburgh Steelers have several key pieces banged up heading into Week 3 against the Raiders, according to the Wednesday injury report. A total of eight players did not practice, including starting safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (chest) and defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi (foot).

Fitzpatrick suffered the injury in Monday night’s 26-22 win against the Cleveland Browns and was taken to the hospital. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin offered an update on where things stand with him at the moment.

“Precautionary reasons. He had a chest injury,” Tomlin said. “They wanted to exercise an abundance of precaution, and so, they took him to the hospital. They feel good about where he is. We’ll see where the week leads us.”

Fitzpatrick has so far record 10 tackles and two passes defended this season. His status will be one of many to monitor throughout the week as Pittsburgh prepared to face Las Vegas.

Additionally, starting cornerback Patrick Peterson sat out Wednesday, though it was simply to give the 33-year-old veteran some extra rest after playing Monday night. Receiver Gunner Olszewski, who also serves as the team’s kick returner, missed practice because of a concussion.

Other players who did not practice include safety Damontae Kazee (calf), linebacker Markus Golden (knee), offensive lineman Isaac Seumalo (rest) and rookie tight end Darnell Washington (knee).

“We got a short week in that regard and so usually on a short week, those that are dealing with injury, it’s a tougher train to get on,” Tomlin said. “We’ll make plans around those that are healthy and available to us.”

The Steelers will hope to get at least some of those players on their injury report healthy before it kicks off against the Raiders at 8:20 p.m. ET on Sunday night.

Steelers place Diontae Johnson on IR with foot injury

After leaving the Steelers Week 1 matchup versus the San Francisco 49ers with a hamstring injury, Pittsburgh has officially placed wide receiver Diontae Johnson on the injured reserve.

Johnson had three catches on six targets for 48 yards in the Steelers’ opening of the season until the third quarter, going down and grabbing his hamstring following a 26-yard catch and run.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that he’d miss multiple weeks due to the injury, but Pittsburgh placing him on the injured reserve guarantees that he’ll miss at least four Weeks of action for the Steelers.

Along with Johnson being put on the injured reserve, the Steelers made various additional roster moves on Monday, also placing running back Anthony McFarland Jr. on the injured reserve and promoting running back Qadree Ollison to the team’s 53-man roster from the practice squad.
