Pittsburgh Steelers sign safety Jalen Elliott
The Pittsburgh Steelers announced the signing of a former Notre Dame and Detroit Lions defensive back. Safety Jalen Elliott has been added to the training camp roster.
Pittsburgh announced the signing on Tuesday. Elliott initially signed with the Lions as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame. He spent two seasons with Detroit.
Last year, Elliott spent time as a member of the practice squad for the New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders. The signing comes just a few days before Pittsburgh hits the field in Tampa Bay for its first preseason game of 2023, playing the Buccaneers.
That contest is set for Friday, Aug. 11 at 7 p.m. ET.
Elliott played in eight games for the Lions during the 2021 campaign. He totaled 12 tackles and made on start.
In addition to signing Elliott, the Steelers also announced it waived injured receiver Ja’Marcus Bradley.
Before jumping to the NFL, Elliott played at Notre Dame from 2016-19. He appeared in 44 contests for the Fighting Irish, racking up 172 total tackles and defending 11 passes. He also hauled in six interceptions, four of which came in the 2018 season.
Steelers place rookie Corey Trice Jr. on injured reserve
The Steelers announced some tough news last week, having to place rookie defensive back Corey Trice Jr. on injured reserve. The former Purdue standout sustained a non-contact injury to his right leg.

Trice suffered the injury on the field and had to be assisted off by trainers.
Although a seventh-round selection, Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin had positive things to say about Trice and fellow rookie defensive back Joey Porter Jr. during OTAs.
“You know they’re sharp guys, the type of institutions they went to, the caliber of ball they played, it wasn’t much that we introduced to them schematically that they hadn’t already been exposed to,” Tomlin said. “Both sharp guys.”
During his career at Purdue, Trice appeared in 34 games and started in 24. During the 2021 season, he suffered an ACL tear. He also previously missed three games for Purdue due to a high ankle sprain.
Trice started 13 games for the Boilermakers in 2022. He recorded 34 tackles, two interceptions and a team-high 12 passes defensed. He helped lead Purdue to a Big Ten Championship Game appearance against Michigan — the first in program history.
He was an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention selection in 2022 by the coaches and media.
