The Pittsburgh Steelers officially signed wide receiver Quez Watkins to their practice squad on Friday evening, according to the franchise’s Twitter page. He spent from 2020-2023 with the Philadelphia Eagles. Pittsburgh actually just recently signed Watkins to a one-year deal after spending his time with the Eagles, but the franchise released him on August 27th. But now just a few days later, he’s back on the team on the practice squad.

During the preseason, Watkins had two catches for 34 yards and one carry for six yards.

He’s the third wide receiver currently on the Steelers’ practice squad, joining Brandon Johnson and Ben Skowronek. Given how thin their depth is at the position, he’s likely not the last wideout they’ll sign. The Pittsburgh offense struggled in the preseason with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields at quarterback. It was easy to see Mike Tomlin’s frustrations with both quarterbacks. Fields is clearly more explosive as a runner, but there are definite concerns with Fields and Wilson heading into the 2024 season.

On August 17th, both Fields and Wilson played for the entire preseason game, only managing 139 total yards between them and 3 total points.
