Pittsburgh Steelers to sign former Seahawks linebacker Tanner Muse

The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly signing former Clemson Tigers star Tanner Muse on a one-year deal for 2023.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero shared on Friday that Muse plans to sign with the Steelers after spending two seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.

A third-round pick out of Clemson, Muse originally signed a four-year rookie deal with the Raiders for $4.32 million. Las Vegas waived him in September of 2021 and the Seahawks picked him up the very next day. He signed to the Seahawks active roster in December.

Ahead of the 2022 season, Muse signed a one-year deal for $660,000. He tallied a career-high 16 tackles in 17 games played.

The North Carolina native signed with Clemson out of high school. He finished his career with the Tigers with 237 career tackles, 10.5 for loss, 15 passes broken up, four sacks, and seven interceptions for 102 yards.

Muse will be a key contributor on special teams for the Steelers in 2023.

Pittsburgh releases Jamir Jones

Former Notre Dame star Jamir Jones was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers after signing with the franchise earlier in NFL Free Agency, the team announced on Wednesday.

Jones spent the 2022 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, totaling 10 tackles as a key contributor on special teams. He previously played for Pittsburgh in 2021 in addition to the Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Rams that season.

Moreover, the Dallas Cowboys originally signed Jones as an undrafted free agent in 2020 out of Notre Dame. During his time at Notre Dame, he had 50 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks as a senior in 2019.

The NFL 2023 calendar year began at 4 p.m. ET on March 15. At that time, contracts running through 2022 officially ran out, making those players free agents. There were 722 players due to hit free agency in 2023.

Prior to the beginning of free agency, teams had a chance to designate one franchise or transition tag player, starting on Feb. 21 at 4 p.m. ET and ending on March 7.

The legal negotiation period spanned from March 13 through March 15. The new year marked the beginning of all trades going official per the league office. April 21 marks the deadline to sign restricted free agents to offer sheets. On April 26, the deadline for teams to match restricted free agent offers sheets hits.
