Pittsburgh Steelers: Wednesday injury report ahead of Week 12 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

The Pittsburgh Steelers (6-4) have released their Wednesday injury report ahead of the Week 12 road matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals (5-5) this Sunday.

Star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, who has been sidelined for the past three games with a hamstring injury, did not practice Wednesday.

“Minkah’s working hard to be a component of this week’s plan,” head coach Mike Tomlin said, via the team’s website. “As is Montravious Adams [who was limited on Wednesday]. In both cases, we’ll be thoughtful about their participation and levels of participation. As we get later in the week, we’ll let the amount of that participation and the quality of it potentially be our guide in terms of their availability.

“We got other bumps and bruises associated with play. Nothing of a big-time significance to mention.”

Pittsburgh’s secondary will continue to be tested in the coming weeks, with safeties Keanu Neal and Elijah Riley both hitting the reserve/injured list within the past week.

Second-year wideout George Pickens also popped up on the injury report with a shin injury. Pickens was a non-participant, three days removed from leading the Steelers with four receptions for 38 yards in the 13-10 Week 11 defeat to the Cleveland Browns (7-3).

The AFC North divisional matchup will be the first for the Steelers with a new play-caller. The Steelers parted ways with offensive coordinator Matt Canada Tuesday, a move made as the Steelers have been outgained in each game this season. Running backs coach Eddie Faulkner will serve as the interim offensive coordinator. Quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan will call plays.

“I am quite confident and excited for the men who get an opportunity to evolve in terms of their roles. One man’s misfortune in this business is another man’s opportunity. We say that regarding injury, it’s the same thing in these circumstances,” Tomlin said. “I’m excited about Eddie Faulkner coordinating our efforts, organizing staff responsibility and meetings, organizing gameplan, leading our unit as a collective and reviewing our tape in preparation for our upcoming opponents, things that the coordinator does. He has full authority in that regard and my full support, obviously.

“From a play-caller perspective, the bulk of that responsibility will fall to Mike Sullivan. That’s also a really natural thing. He’s done it in two different locations in the national football league, he has tangible experience, I’m sure that will be helpful, but also, and probably more importantly, he works closely with Kenny [Pickett]. Looking for fluidity in that area and some cohesion there. Really getting a feel for what he does well and hopefully, that aids us well.”
