Pittsburgh vs. West Virginia odds: Early point spread for Backyard Brawl, how to watch
West Virginia travels to Pittsburgh to take on the Panthers in the 107th all-time meeting of the Backyard Brawl during Week 3.
The rivalry was resurrected in 2022 after a decade layoff. Since then, both matchups have lived up to the rivalry’s name and this year’s meeting is expected to be no different.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, West Virginia is an early 2.5-point favorite against Pittsburgh in the 2024 Backyard Brawl. The over/under total for the game is set at 61.5.
Pitt won its season opener at home 55-24 against Kent State before hitting the road to play Cincinnati over the weekend. They’ll look to advance to 2-0 on the early season inside Acrisure Stadium.

The Panthers lead the all-time series between the two programs 62–41–3, however the Mountaineers have claimed victory in four of the past five matchups dating back to 2009. The rivalry took over a decade hiatus after both teams were no longer affiliated with the Big East, so no games were played between the two from 2012-2021.

Both programs opted to return the series to their schedules in 2022 and have played twice since that decision was made. Both programs have split those two matchups, so Saturday’s game could earn some major bragging rights between the two schools and fanbases.
A ranked Pitt team won the game that resumed the series in a high-scoring 38-31 affair on their home turf while WVU came back in 2023 and beat the Panthers 17-6 at Mountaineer Field.
“They call it the Brawl for a reason, and that wasn’t a thing of beauty,” WVU head coach Neal Brown said after last year’s game. “That wasn’t a classic. They’re not going to talk about the beauty of that game for a long time, but regardless of what is was, it was a win for West Virginia. I have a lot of respect for (Pitt coach Pat) Narduzzi and that team.”
Brown and Narduzzi are likely expecting another hard-hitting slug fest when his team takes on Pitt on the road this weekend.
