Plaxico Burress says Cowboys won't win a championship with Dak Prescott
Maybe Plaxico Burress is coming for Dak Prescott because ex Giants aren’t supposed to love current Cowboys. Or perhaps the old receiver has a point about the Dallas quarterback.
Burress played for three teams in his dozen years in the NFL. But he’s probably most known as a Giant and for coming up big in a Super Bowl. So he knows what it takes to win the most coveted trophy in the NFL. Burress appeared on the The Carton Show earlier this month when the panel began discussing Dak Prescott.
“I believe he’s reached his ceiling as a quarterback with the Dallas Cowboys,” Burress said. “They can win, but they won’t win a championship with him.”

Burress isn’t saying anything novel about Dak Prescott
here’s nothing novel about what Burress was preaching. Die-hard Cowboys fans around the state of Texas debate all things quarterbacks every day. On Thursday night, Tony Romo even started trending on Twitter because Lone Star State fans were engaged in whether the QB should make the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Dak Prescott receives the same kind of passionate attention. Fans also ponder who should be the third QB on the all-time Cowboys list. It’s Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman,, then take your pick.
These next few weeks are the official dog days of football. The Cowboys don’t pick up and leave the suburbs of north Dallas for the cool breezes of Oxnard, Calif for another four weeks.

But here’s the deal. that’s clear. Romo didn’t reach an NFC title game during his career. And Dak Prescott also hasn’t been able to push the Cowboys into the Super Bowl qualifier. In fact, Dallas hasn’t even competed in the NFC title game since January, 1996.
Cowboys revamped offense for 2023 season. Will it make a difference?
Winning post season games are a priority for all teams. But the pressure is building on Prescott. The quarterback’s playoff time has been mixed. The Cowboys have reached the post season in four of Prescott’s seven seasons under center. Dallas has won a first-round game three times. Then the Cowboys lost to the Packers (2016), Los Angeles Rams (2018) and 49ers (2023).
Dallas did scramble its offense in the off season. Team owner Jerry Jones didn’t extend the contracts on a number of assistants. The Cowboys and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore parted ways. And coach Mike McCarhy will begin calling plays like he used to do earlier in his career.
Now, let’s circle back to Plaxico Burress. He played two stints with the Steelers along with the Giants and Jets. But fans remember him for the game-winning catch against the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. Burress made his quarterback, Eli Manning, look so very good.
