Police investigating after Mac Jones spotted dead body at hotel hours before Thursday win vs. Rams

Police are investigating a dead body spotted by San Francisco quarterback Mac Jones ahead of the 49ers 26-23 overtime win over the Rams on Thursday Night Football. The body was spotted that morning near the team hotel.
“That morning at the team hotel in Marina del Rey, Jones told teammates he was on his balcony when he looked out at the water and saw a floating dead body,” The Athletic’s Dianna Russini wrote. “Someone called the police.
“As the 49ers loaded buses for the stadium, players watched investigators and even a coroner’s van pull into the marina. On Friday afternoon, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said the incident was still under investigation.”
Police have not released details on the incident. Jones has not commented on the matter publicly as of this writing.
Despite the incident, the 49ers went on to take on the Rams on the road. Jones, who reportedly made the discovery, went on to have his best game of the season in relief of the injured Brock Purdy.
Jones went on to complete 33 of his 49 passing attempts on the night for 342 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He’s now completing over 65% (86-129) of his attempts on the season with 905 passing yards, six touchdowns and an interception. He’s 3-0 in the games he’s played extended minutes this season.

The win improved the 49ers to 4-1 on the season. Now, the debate on whether Jones should continue to start when Purdy returns for injury has begun. Though, Purdy’s significant contract might say otherwise.
Nick Saban, his coach at Alabama, spoke highly of Jones’ resurgence in the NFL. He spoke highly of his former QB1, speaking to how proud he is of Jones since coming into the league.
“I’m very proud of all of our guys who go on and do this — because this is what they came here to do. They wanted to win at Alabama, sure, but they also wanted to have a career in the NFL,” Saban said, via the Pat McAfee Show on Friday. “… Right now, though, I think he’s in a really good situation with (Kyle) Shanahan, that offense, and the players he’s got around him.
“He’s a guy who will execute. He’s really smart. He’s going to do exactly what you tell him to do, and he wants to know exactly what you want him to do. I’m not sure he always got that before San Francisco.”
