Pro golfer Justin Doeden admits to cheating in PGA Tour Canada event
On the golf course, cheating your score is about as unrighteous as it gets. Let’s just say that PGA Tour Canada golfer Justin Doeden isn’t the slickest cheater of them all after he became the latest athlete to try and sweeten his final tally.
According to MondayQ, Doeden waited until the very last hole to try and pull one over. Facing a the possibility of being cut on Day 2 of the PGA Tour Canada event, Doeden decided to fudge the numbers on the 18th hole, erasing the seven he actually got to replace it with a five just before the scorecard was turned in.
He had just finished up on 18 and had knocked one of his shots out of bounds, forcing a penalty stroke that ultimately led to a double-bogey. Unsatisfied with that result and now having to sweat out the rest of his afternoon on the chopping block, Doeden attempted to erase all doubt and claim he parred, but everybody who participated in the hole with him knew he didn’t score a five and wasn’t -3 for the day, but just -1.
Two fellow golfers who were enjoying lunch after their own rounds initially tipped off the scorekeepers on Deoden’s foul play, noting he was definitely not at three under par for the tournament. After denying the allegations at first, he eventually caved in and admitted that he did in fact erase a seven to replace it with a five in hopes of making the cut.
“I am here to confess of the biggest mistake I have made in my life to date. I cheated in golf,” Doeden wrote in a Twitter apology afterward. “This is not who I am. I let my sponsors down. I let my competitors down. I let my family down. I let myself down. I pray for your forgiveness.”

Doeden also tacked on a reference to the Bible verse John 1:9, which reads: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
Now, the funny part is that Doeden would have actually made the cut even with his double-bogey on No. 18. Had he simply accepted his seven on the final hole of the day, Doeden would have been enjoying another round on Saturday. Instead, he cheated and had to withdraw from the event, which meant the cut was extended by a stroke, where 13 extra golfers got to advance since they were all tied right behind Doeden.
So, a tremendous stroke of luck for those golfers thanks to a no good and very bad breach of competitive spirit by Mr. Doeden.
