Puka Nacua injury update: Rams WR carted off after initially returning to action
Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua will not play the second half of the team’s season opener against the Detroit Lions. The Rams announced that Nacua has been ruled out after suffering a knee injury in the first half.
Nacua suffered the knee injury in the second quarter. After the injury, Melissa Stark of NBC gave an update on Nacua.
“Puka Nacua – he was in the medical tent for about 10 minutes,” said Stark. “Matthew Stafford went in to check on him. He came out with a new tape job on his right knee. He is questionable with that knee.”
Nacua returned to the field with about a minute left to play in the first half. He then left the game to visit with medical personnel while riding a cart to the locker room. Nacua finished the night with four receptions for 35 yards.

What Sean McVay likes about Puka Nacua
The Rams have big expectations for the 23-year-old wide receiver since he had a monster rookie season in 2023. In his first year, Nacua caught 105 passes for 1,486 yards, and both marks are rookie records.
In December, Rams head coach Sean McVay revealed what makes Nacua special. “He’s made a lot of great plays that have really positively affected the outcome of games or for our offense, but he’s doing a lot of things in the run game,” McVay said, per Sports Illustrated. “There’s a physical nature at which he plays this game … that enables you to do a lot more than what you would otherwise. So there’s a toughness both with and without the ball, there’s a football IQ and acumen that he possesses, and there’s a humility.”
