FAU sources respond to Ray Lewis report from ESPN
“Yeah, on Sundays we take a deep look at the game. And we’re obviously about correcting and improving. We’re going to watch it and [there are] some things we want to build off of. Some things we’ve got to clean up. Spoke to a little bit of the emotion of the game. That locker room, when I walked in after that game, this thing means something. It was frustrating. I actually told them that’s a good thing,” head coach Jonathan Smith said following the Michigan loss.
“If I’d have walked into the locker room and these guys are just staring at their phones, we’d have problems. We didn’t have that. This thing was emotional, and that’s how we want to be playing the game.”
Purdue is worse off than Michigan State right now. In his second season, Ryan Walters failed to improve on last year’s 4-8 record.
Even back in October, Walters was talked about by ESPN’s Pete Thamel as far as uncertain coaching futures.
“I think the other thing we’re seeing with these big leagues now is,” Thamel said. “Inevitably, you grow to 18 in the Big Ten, somebody is coming in 18th…I think there’s a certain visceral reaction to finishing at the bottom of these leagues because they’re so big now. I think one of the interesting litmuses will be Purdue. They’ve really struggled in year two under Ryan Walters. It would cost more than $9 million to buy him out, nevermind the rest of the staff and everything that would go with it. I think they need a strong finish or he’s going to end up in the crosshairs too.”
