Seattle Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs was absent from practice last week prior to the team’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers. However, the former Texas defensive back is expecting to return to practice soon.

He just has to take care of some things first.

“As soon as this little business thing that I gotta do, as soon as it’s done — signed, sealed, delivered — I’ll be back at practice,” Diggs said on Tuesday, per ProFootballTalk.

Originally, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll attempted to explain the situation. Moreover, Diggs’ head coach stated the safety was “making a bit of a statement” in regards to his contract with his absence.

While Diggs refuted Carrol’s claim, his head coach isn’t far off. According to Adam Jude of the Seattle Times, Diggs is seeking an insurance policy to ensure he’s protected in case of injury in the final year of his existing deal with the team.

“I think it should be cleared up pretty soon.”

Evidently, Diggs’ business may be getting cleared up sooner rather than later. Earlier, the former Texas safety shed some more light on the situation.

“I think it should be cleared up pretty soon,” Diggs said. “Me and my team are handling that. At the end of the day, I’m grateful to be a Seahawk and I’m going to be here.

“I think I’ll be out there ready to play the first game of the season. … I plan on being at practice with my teammates. You guys have been around me enough to understand that I love ball. I’m gonna play ball. Just like the organization take care of their self, I’m taking care of my business and I’ll be back shortly.”

While Diggs isn’t calling it a hold out, he’s effectively attempting to accomplish the same thing. Furthermore, a vague tweet sent out by Diggs last night may have indicated that his business has concluded.

“Grateful is an understatement. Year 7,” Diggs wrote.

Now, we wait to see if the magnificent Seahawks safety returns to the practice field.

Quandre Diggs with the Seattle Seahawks

When he first entered the league, it was to little fanfare as a sixth round pick of the Detroit Lions in 2015. However, Diggs wouldn’t let his draft day slip define him.

After earning a 3-year extension with Detroit, the Lions traded the safety to the Seahawks for a fifth round pick. The deal has been a steal for Seattle, as Diggs has made the Pro Bowl each year he’s been with the team.

As Quandre Diggs takes care of his business off the field, his play on the field should continue to be stellar. The former Texas Longhorns safety will look to make another Pro Bowl in Year 7.
