As the Las Vegas Raiders opened their offseason, it appeared as though Derek Carr’s time with the franchise was coming to an end. From him being benched for Jarrett Stidham to penning a letter to the franchise’s fans, it became increasingly likely that his nine-year run there was going to end in a trade to a new home.
However, it seems that might not necessarily be the direction he and the franchise are moving in. Per Sports Illustrated, the Raiders have not allowed Carr and his camp to see a trade yet.
“The #Raiders have not granted QB Derek Carr’s camp the ability to seek a trade as of yet, according to @SInow,” tweeted Dov Kleiman.
Carr has started every single game he has played over his career with Las Vegas that started back in the 2014 NFL Draft. In those 142 games, he has thrown for 35,222 yards and 217 touchdowns on 64.6% completion rate.
However, after missing the playoffs for the seventh time with a 6-11 record in 2022, it appeared as though time had run out on the near-32 year old who had shown time and again his loyalty to the franchise.
It’ll be interesting to see whether or not the Raiders actually grant Carr the opportunity to seek a trade or if they are just looking for a deal that better benefits them. If not, this whole narrative could shift depending on how things progress for the two sides moving forward.
Watt hints at Texans hiring DeMeco Ryans as next head coach
With reports indicating that the Houston Texans closing in on 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans as their next head coach, JJ Watt added more fuel to the speculation.

The former Texans defensive end tweeted a photo of himself and Ryans, who played linebacker in Houston from 2006-11, on Monday. Watt did not provide a caption for the picture, though many put the pieces together given the past week’s reports.
It wasn’t the first time that Watt took to social media to support Ryans in his head coaching aspirations. On Jan. 20, he quoted a tweet reporting that the Texans were set to interview DeMeco Ryans for the position. Watt shared his own experience with Ryans, as the two were teammates during Watt’s rookie season in 2011.
“As rookie in Houston, I bought my first house across the street from DeMeco because if Meco thought it was the right place to live, it was the right place to live for me,” Watt said. “Captain, leader, smart, tough, personable, crushed it as DC… He will be a great head coach.”
Following his 10-year NFL playing career, Ryans joined the San Francisco staff in 2017 as a defensive quality control coach. He worked his way up to linebackers coach by the next season and eventually defensive coordinator in 2021. The 49ers advanced to the NFC title game in each of the past two seasons under Ryans, though they fell short both times.
