Rams receiver follows Super Bowl with incredible family moment
Following his part in the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl win, one receiver had to rush to the hospital after the game for an incredible family moment. Van Jefferson’s wife was in attendance for the game with his family, and was rushed to the hospital mid-game after entering labor. Jefferson rushed off the field with his family to hurry to the hospital for the birth of his son.
Receiver Van Jones wins Super Bowl, rushes to child’s birth
“Van Jefferson grabbed his daughter as she and his dad came into the field and sprinted through the locker room and is heading to the hospital right now,” explained The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue after the game. “Samaria, his wife, is having their son and was rushed to the hospital mid-game as she went into labor.”
Few people have experienced the swirl of emotions that Van Jefferson experienced on Sunday night, but this Super Bowl will be even more special than he expected before the game began. Jefferson went from winning the biggest game in his career to preparing for the birth of his child in a matter of hours. It was reported ahead of the game that his wife’s due date was listed as Feb. 17, but she was aware ahead of time that the moment could come sooner than that. His wife reportedly instructed her family and the Rams organization that they should not notify Jefferson if she went into labor during the game, wanting him to focus solely on his Super Bowl dream until after it was over.
Jefferson ended his day with four receptions for 23 yards, and one more member in his family.
Matthew Stafford on his Super Bowl win
“I’m so proud of this team,” said Stafford after the win. “There’s so many guys on our team that deserve this. So many great players, guys that have just given their heart and soul to this team. Guys that are either playing in this game or not because of injury — I’m just so proud of this group. This is the story of our season. It’s up and down, it’s tough. We’re a freaking tough team — showed up late and got it done. I’m excited.”

Stafford was then asked a follow-up question about his star receiver and Super Bowl MVP, Cooper Kupp. Kupp was the recipient of four passes for 39 yards and the game-winning touchdown, as well as a fourth-down rush for seven yards that kept their final drive alive.
“That’s hard work,” Stafford said of his relationship with Kupp. “That’s hours together. I just thank coach for putting it — ‘Matthew, you and Coop go get this thing done.’ He kept calling plays for him, kept finding ways to get him the ball. He made unbelievable plays, that’s what he does. I’m so proud of this team, it’s such a team victory. Our defense played outstanding — such a great game.
“I think the way we pull for each other. We work together every single day — we sharpen each other’s skills. I mean, I get to go against that defense every day, how can you not get better? We care for each other. That starts top-down. Sean does an unbelievable job of connecting with all of us as players, leading the way. We followed his lead and we’re here now.”
