LOOK: Randy Gregory calls out Jerry Jones over latest statement on contract dispute
Former Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Randy Gregory called out owner Jerry Jones for his newest comments on their contract dispute this offseason. Gregory was set to re-sign with the Cowboys this offseason before the Denver Broncos made a better offer in free agency. Jones reportedly spoke with Gregory directly and petitioned him to stay with Dallas, and the pitch worked as Gregory decided to sign with Dallas for the same contract Denver offered him.
Jones said on Tuesday that the price-point for re-signing Gregory had become too high for the Cowboys, an assertion that Gregory took to Twitter to call out.
Randy Gregory on Jerry Jones’ comments
When the time came to sign his contract with Dallas and keep him from joining the Broncos, negotiations broke down at the final moment and Gregory left angry with Dallas for how they conducted their business. Reports stated that Jerry Jones had left the contract signing to his son, Executive Vice President Stephen Jones. Stephen Jones reportedly left the signing to a member of his staff, leading to a “miscommunication” where the Cowboys presented Gregory with a different deal than they had agreed upon.
The new contract had a clause that would forfeit Gregory’s guarantees if he was penalized by the NFL for anything — a major deal for a player who has received multiple punishments from the NFL already. Gregory felt that his trust was betrayed and he left the Cowboys organization.

Now, Jones’ comments appear to be painting a different picture than the one reports stated when Gregory left the team. NFL analyst Marcus Mosher was quick to comment on the situation by stating the Cowboys were not negotiating price with Gregory — they were willing to match Denver’s offer completely.
Gregory himself responded to Mosher’s comment by stating Jones was acting like he was “scorned” by Gregory, and referred to an old and unusual name Jones gave to his desired pass rushers. Jones stated in 2017 that the Cowboys needed a “war-daddy” pass rusher, and the team believed at the time that they needed one in addition to Gregory and Demarcus Lawrence who were already on the team.
After Tuesday’s comments, Gregory made it clear that he hadn’t forgotten the strange things Jerry has said about his position.
