The attorney of Kansas City Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice issued a statement Monday, saying Rice is “cooperating with local authorities” after he was allegedly connected to a vehicle involved in a major crash in Dallas on Saturday evening.

“On behalf of Rashee Rice, his thoughts are with everyone impacted by the automobile accident on Saturday,” said Rice’s attorney, Royce West, via Adam Schefter of ESPN. “Rashee is cooperating with local authorities and will take all necessary steps to address this situation responsibly. Any and all requests for comment can be directed to his attorney Mr. Royce West of West & Associates, LLP.”

The Dallas Morning News initially reported that the accident occurred around 6:20 p.m. and that police are now looking for him.

“Police are looking for Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice in connection with a major accident Saturday evening in northeast Dallas, law enforcement officials confirmed to The Dallas Morning News,” the outlet reported. “A vehicle believed to be registered or leased to Rice was involved in a crash on North Central Expressway at about 6:20 p.m., officials told The News.

“The law enforcement officials said that police are looking for Rice, and a police call sheet obtained by The News confirmed that law enforcement officials were searching for him in connection with the accident.”

Chiefs team president speaks on Rashee Rice

According to Dallas police, two drivers in a Corvette and Lamborghini were racing when they lost control of their vehicles. Both caused and were part of a six-car accident. Rice is suspected to be the driver of the Corvette involved in the accident. Both drivers ran from the scene without stopping. Two drivers involved in the accident were treated at the crash site for minor injuries. Two other people were taken to a hospital and diagnosed with minor injuries.

Speaking on “Mundo in the Morning,” Chiefs president Mark Donovan said the team is in the process of gathering facts.

“In all these situations you have to wait until you have all the facts. And frankly, we don’t have all the facts at this point,” Donovan said Monday, via NBC News. “The one comforting fact that we do have is that there was a multi-car crash in Texas, in Dallas. And fortunately, it doesn’t appear that anyone was hurt, and we should be grateful for that. We’ll get to the bottom of it, we’ll gather the facts, and we’ll react accordingly.”

Rice, 23, was the Chiefs’ second-round selection in last year’s NFL Draft out of SMU. He hauled in 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns. Rice was second among rookie receivers in yards, trailing only Puka Nacua of the Los Angeles Rams. He put together a series of impressive outings during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl run. Rice tallied 26 receptions across four postseason games and amassed 262 yards and a touchdown.
