Kansas City Chiefs (3-0) star wideout Rashee Rice was carted off the field in the first quarter of Sunday’s Week 4 road tilt against the Los Angeles Chargers (2-1).

Rice suffered a right knee injury after quarterback Patrick Mahomes accidentally hit him low while attempting to make a tackle on cornerback Kristian Fulton, who had picked him off earlier in the play. The Chiefs listed Rice as questionable to return.

CBS Sports sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson said that Rice was unable to put any weight on his right leg.

“Well, I’ve been watching Rashee Rice. And he cannot put any weight on that right leg, as he hobbled over to the bench. I was told it is a right knee injury,” Wolfson said. “They have brought the cart out for him. He seems hesitant to walk over to it. But it looks like they are going to take him into the locker room.”

Chiefs lose No. 1 target in Rashee Rice vs. Chargers

Rice, the 2023 second round pick out of SMU, entered Sunday’s game third in the NFL with 24 receptions to go along with 288 yards and two touchdowns. His absence leaves a massive hole in the Chiefs’ receiving core, who are already without Hollywood Brown. Kansas City will look for contributions from Travis Kelce, Xavier Worthy, Skyy Moore, Justin Watson and JuJu Smith-Schuster with Rice sidelined.
