Rashee Rice injury update: NFL insider reveals expected diagnosis for Chiefs WR
Kansas City Chiefs (4-0) star wideout Rashee Rice is feared to have suffered a torn ACL in Sunday’s 17-10 Week 4 road win over the Los Angeles Chargers (2-2), according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Rice will undergo an MRI to confirm the diagnosis.
Rice sustained the right knee injury in the first quarter after quarterback Patrick Mahomes accidentally hit him low while attempting to make a tackle on cornerback Kristian Fulton, who had picked him off earlier in the play.
Head coach Andy Reid offered a grim update on the reality of Rice’s injury.
“Rashee will have his knee checked out tomorrow with an MRI,” Reid said after the game. “It’s his knee, and I think we’ll have to wait and see, but I’m sure it’s not as good of news as we want.”

Rice, the 2023 second round pick out of SMU, entered Sunday’s game third in the NFL with 24 receptions to go along with 288 yards and two touchdowns. His absence will be felt, as Kansas City’s receiver room is already thin following the loss of Hollywood Brown.

Several Chiefs stepped up with Rice sidelined, none more so than tight end Travis Kelce. Kelce, held to just eight receptions for 69 yards in the first three games of the season, came down with a team-leading seven catches for 89 yards in the victory over Los Angeles. Rookie wideout Xavier Worthy added 73 yards on three receptions, including a 54-yard score late in the second quarter.
Reid said he felt the team “hung together” the “best way they could” after Rice went down.
“The guys all hung together,” Reid said, via Joshua Brisco of Sports Illustrated. “I mean, they feel terrible for Rashee because he’s having a fantastic year. We’ll hope for the best on the report, but if he is out, then… I thought Pat stepped up and just said, ‘Hey, we’re gonna roll.’ Nags [offensive coordinator Matt Nagy] was constantly going through there and just saying, ‘Hang with it, and let’s go.’ The coaches did a good job being positive with that the best way they could.”
