Rashid Shaheed injury update: Saints place WR on IR, reveal recovery timeline
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed will no longer play this year as he suffered a season-ending injury. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Shaheed will miss the next four to six months because the meniscus in his knee was repaired on Thursday.
Shaheed injured his knee in Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Schefter reported that Shaheed’s surgery took place in Los Angeles, and the Saints knew that Shaheed’s injury could be serious.
“It’s something with the meniscus,” Saints head coach Dennis Allen said, per ESPN. “I think there’s a couple of different options, and so I think that’s what we’re trying to determine right now. There’s a chance [for injured reserve], certainly.”
Shaheed, 26, was a big playmaker for the Saints in 2024. Through six games, the Webber State alum caught 20 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns. Shaheed was named to his first Pro Bowl and selected to the All-Pro First Team in 2023 as a punt returner. He averaged 13.6 yards per return and scored one punt return TD last year.

Rashid Shaheed talks about having a ‘bigger’ role with Saints
“I know that my role was going to be bigger going into this offseason,” Shaheed said in July, per the Saints’ official website. “I tried to make that a focus into being in the best shape that I possibly could, knowing that there might not be many times where I come out of the game. Coach Kub is going to be counting on me to make a lot of plays for this team, and I’m super excited for that role. I feel like I’m ready for it.
“So far, what I’ve seen is the offense kind of allows us to get the ball in our hands and be able to get some YAC (yards after catch). It allows us to play to our abilities, it allows us to play pretty free, a lot more confident. I feel like the whole offense feels more confident in ourselves.”
