NASCAR is basking in the glory of the remarkable Ambetter Health 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, and the ratings are backing up their confidence.
Sunday’s race at Atlanta drew rave reviews from drivers, fans and media members alike, as it’s been praised as one of the best races in the history of the sport over the last couple of days. Evidently, there’s evidence from the ratings breakdown that suggest it was a major success from that standpoint, as well.
Check out the graphic shared by FOX Sports PR to social media, where they revealed the amount of viewers for Sunday’s race, and added some pretty promising tidbits regarding the ratings for Atlanta compared to last year’s iteration.
“Sun’s out, ratings up! Sunday’s @NASCAR Cup Series race from @ATLMotorSpdwy scored 4,464,000 viewers on FOX, up +33% over last year’s race from Atlanta and +5% over the equivalent race at Fontana,” FOX Sports PR posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
That’s a pretty sizable jump. The ratings reveal for the Daytona 500 wasn’t exactly promising, but that didn’t take into account the fact that the race was moved to Monday afternoon after rain soaked the track for multiple days. These ratings for Atlanta however, they’ll certainly inspire some good feelings.
Up next for NASCAR is a trip to Las Vegas. We’ll see if the ratings continue to stay high as the Cup Series takes its show to Sin City, or if the excitement of Atlanta put it in a league all by itself over the weekend.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. calls out NASCAR on FOX camera work during Ambetter Health 400
Meanwhile, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has become one of the top voices in NASCAR media, and he wasn’t afraid to raise some concerns during FOX’s broadcast of the Ambetter Health 400.
It was an incredible contest, one that saw Daniel Suarez defeat Ryan Blaney and Kyle Busch by one of the smallest margins in the sport’s history. Still, there was far too much action on the track that wasn’t captured by FOX, according to Earnhardt.

He took to social media during the race to voice his complaints on the matter, believing FOX should’ve been more focused on the entire field, instead of simply looking towards the leaders of the pack, as the network was missing some tremendous action.
“The camera shots are too tight. Can’t see everything,” Earnhardt posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “There is a shit ton going on out there. #NASCAR”
That’s something Earnhardt’s friends at NBC have focused on over the last couple of years, and continues to be a viable complaint against FOX. Still, Earnhardt gave the network some credit during the race as well, as he noted FOX’s caution loop visual was something he liked during the broadcast.
“I like this visual of the caution loop Fox is using. #NASCAR,” Earnhardt posted on X, giving the network some credit.
So it’s not all bad, but FOX could definitely be well-served to use some of Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s ideas moving forward, especially if he’s just going to give out free advice. He’s become one of the premier names in NASCAR media, and who knows, he could even end up working for them in the future.
