The hometown hero, Burt Myers, has ended his night in Bowman Gray. He will not race in the NASCAR Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium. With 13 laps to go in the Last Chance Qualifier, Myers found himself in the wall, and hard.

This was a huge hit for Burt Myers. He went nose-first into the wall. Really, the first big hit for this newly installed SAFER barrier. Things were intense early on and often at the Madhouse.

This Last Chance Qualifier is only 75 laps long. Just about every car on the track has damage of some kind.

Myers has taken his fair share of hits in his modified at Bowman Gray. Now he can add a Cup Series wreck to that list. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. may or may not have contributed. (He did).

Burt Myers and Tim Brown gave the Clash weekend local flavor. Unfortunately, we are not going to see either one of them in the main event tonight. But they put on a show for the fans.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is not a popular man in Bowman Gray right now. He took out one of the hometown heroes and the crowd let him know about it, too. Public enemy #1 in Winston-Salem.

The Cup Series dream did not end with a spot in the Clash main event. However, Burt Myers and Tim Brown did live out a dream. Not everyone gets a chance to drive a Cup car, even for an exhibition event. They both made their track and fans proud this weekend.

Burt Myers ends weekend in smoke

The Clash at Bowman Gray ended with a bang, an unfortunate bang, for Burt Myers. That hit into the wall was tough. A lot of folks wouldn’t be able to take that and get out of the car on their own power. Myers isn’t just any random folk, though.

The Madhouse has prepared drivers for years to be their toughest. You are seeing the best out of the short track racers in the field. Josh Berry was as physical as could be and ended up going P2 in the LCQ to advance to the final race.

Bowman Gray brings out the best in drivers. It also brings out every emotion you can think of. From spins to bumps and bangs – there was a little bit of everything in the Heat Races and Last Chance Qualifier.

Ultimately, Kyle Larson won the LCQ and Josh Berry was P2. Those two advance to the main event. Ryan Blaney takes the final spot in the field with the 2024 points provisional. He is the highest points earner from last season that failed to qualify on speed.
