Joe Castiglione is a Boston Red Sox legend. The radio broadcaster has been calling Boston games since 1983, becoming the voice many people think of first when they think of the team. Throughout that decades long career, he’s had numerous iconic moments.

Now, Castiglione may have added another iconic moment, with special thanks to the technology involved, looks like he added another one of those moments.

Jose Siri of the Tampa Bay Rays was at the plate when Castilgione’s iPhone decided that the broadcaster must be talking to it.

During the broadcast, Siri can be heard trying to respond to Castiglione. Another person in the booth immediately broke out in laughter while Castiglione tried to figure out where it came from. It wasn’t long before he realized it was his phone and the entire booth broke out in infectious laughter.

“It was Siri? That was Siri!” Castiglione shouted. “It came through on the iPhone. Siri’s at the plate. I’m not asking you, Siri. Not this Siri, that Siri.”

It’s moments like this when baseball broadcasters endear themselves to fans, as much as it is when they call a legendary moment of action. How easily Castiglione handled this, took the moment in stride, and was able to laugh makes it obvious why Red Sox fans love him.

Along with being the Red Sox radio broadcaster for nearly four decades, he has spent time working for Milwaukee and Cleveland.

Red Sox errors lead to a little league home run

Joe Castiglione is a legend in the broadcast booth but the current Boston Red Sox team is quickly becoming infamously bad on the defensive side of the ball. Over the weekend, things only got worse for the Red Sox defense when they gave up a little league home run.

With a runner on second, Yandy Diaz slapped a single into right field. Instead of surrendering the run and keeping Diaz to one base, the Red Sox tried to throw him out. Once they did that he went to take second.

The Red Sox then made another huge mistake. Instead of just giving Diaz second, Boston catcher Connor Wong threw down. The ball went into center, which had been vacated to back up the initial single. Diaz got up and ran wild, all the way home.

For a Red Sox team that thinks it can make a run at the playoffs, these are the kinds of mistakes that can cost them games and perhaps a Wild Card spot.
