Referee comically doesn't ask 'heads or tails' during coin toss, stops flip in mid-air
The coin toss is something that’s always kind of taken for granted at the beginning of major football games. It’s never easy being a referee. And we got a great example of that on Sunday night in the CFL’s version of the Super Bowl, known as the Grey Cup.
Check it out as he forgot to ask the Argonauts whether they wanted heads or tails. He immediately recognized the mistake in the middle of the coin flip.
Head referee Ben Major didn’t seem too worried about it
It was the head referee, Ben Major. And while some people might fret over the mistake, it seems like one of those moments that just helped to break the tension leading up to a big game. Sunday night was the Grey Cup. It’s simply never easy being a referee and a moment like that one is a great example.
The Toronto Argonauts are one of the more successful teams in CFL history, but they entered the big game as underdogs. They went up against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and proved a lot of people wrong. Toronto prevailed in the game, 41-24, bringing home their record 19th CFL title.

Toronto quarterback Nick Arbuckle stepped up big for the Argos. He was behind starting quarterback Chad Kelly, but then he snapped his tibia and fibula. Arbuckle, a former Georgia State star, stepped up and had one of the more memorable games of his career. Arbuckle completed 26 of 37 passes for 252 yards, while tossing in two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Zach Collaros, the quarterback for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, tossed four interceptions. He left the game in the third quarter in order to deal with a cut on his finger. Collaros roomed with Jason Kelce while he played for the University of Cincinnati in college.
Another great college football player, former Arizona Wildcat star running back Ka’Deem Carey, got a touchdown in the fourth quarter as the Argos pulled away. He finished with 15 carries for 79 yards and a touchdown in Toronto’s big win. Carey is the Wildcats’ all-time leading rusher.
